Abstract

Purpose:This study was to identify the effect of assertiveness training program on anxiety, self-efficacy and assertive behavior of schizophrenic patients.

Method:The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 20 admitted patients composed of two groups in N hospital: the experimental group and the control group 10 patients, respectively. The self-assertiveness training program was carried out from Oct. 4th, 2004 to Sept. 29th, 2004 and every 70 minutes per session, twice sessions per week, totally 14 sessions. The Data were analyzed by Fisher¡¯s exact test and Mann-Whitney U test.

Result:There were no significant differences between the experimental group and the control group about state-anxiety inventory. There were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group about self-efficacy(p=.006) and assertive behavior(p=.027).

Conclusion:The self-assertiveness training program for schizophrenic patients may be effective in enhancing the self-efficacy and the assertive behaviors, and could be use in clinical setting.
